Golden Eagle is situated in the heart of old hunting country, close to the town of Rio Maior, about 60 Km north of Lisbon. Designed by the American golf course architect Rocky Roquemore, the course is laid out through rolling hills with fairways bordered by Pine and Eucalyptus trees. It has a typical American feel with the emphasis on target golf.
Benefitting from recent investment, the course has upgraded and new water features have been added. These changes make it a truly outstanding layout and together with its famous 97 bunkers it provides a real test for golfers of all standards. From the very first hole you are challenged and stimulated by the variety of shots that are required to negotiate this course. ![]()

The Front 9 is played over undulating fairways with testing par 4’s, the feature being the Seventh, where the approach shot is played over pine trees to a narrow green. Very little room for error here. The two Par 5’s are a real test with challenging drives and well protected greens, particularly the 8th where exceptionally big bunkers guard the large severely sloping green. Walk off here with a par and you will be really happy.
The back nine is dominated by water which comes into play on no less than eight of these. Combined with some elevated tees it makes for a visually stunning landscape. Many holes here would qualify as a feature hole on any golf course. From the par 4 eleventh, where water comes into play off the tee and approaching the green to the lovely par 3 twelfth, which is almost totally surrounded by water, to the beautiful par 4 dogleg eighteenth with its big lake dominated by a large fountain. This is great golf country. ![]()

It is a golf course that is enjoyed by golfers of all standards. Good shots will be rewarded and because many of the holes have generous fairways wayward shots will not always be punished.
